Spinning Girl

The Spinning Girl…
Do you see the spinning girl turning clockwise or counterclockwise?
According to an article in PerthNow, if you see her going clockwise, you use more of the right side of the brain. If you see her going counterclockwise (anticlockwise) you use more of the left side of your brain.
The folks that can see her going both ways - or even change direction at will - use left and right sides of their brain equally.
Apparently, that’s not quite true. It’s more a case of perception, and the ability to sharpen your perceptual skills.
And if you can’t see her going more than one way, check out this image — it will help you see the “other” direction that you can’t see.

It still confuses me
The problem is the foot. If you look at the foot, even if you can see the rest of it going counterclockwise, the foot is still traveling clockwise.
At least as far as I could perceive. So it is spinning clockwise, which would show that more people can see it going that direction one would think.
Still, a nifty exercise in perception.
Ummm… I see it both ways and I can assure that if the body is going clockwise, the foot is going that direction. Seeing it going counterclockwise results in the foot going counterclockwise. It does deal with how you perceive it.
Daniel, I see it both ways, too.
For Kuri… this page adds a line that helps you see the other way better.

At first it seemed to go clockwise then after i focused on her stomach for a while i noticed she was now going the other way so i tried to see if i could make it change at will and i found that if you blink really fast for a few seconds she will appear to rotate the other direction, well it did for me. So give it a try… it’d be really cool if it was just me
Actually, I saw it as COUNTERclockwise for 3 days, then I could get it to reverse. It is shocking, but I still initially see it as counterclockwise, then it can be made to switch.
If you think “Ok the foot on the ground is her left” you see her rotating anit-clockwise. Look away and think “ok the foot is her right now” and look back she is going clockwise.
When I looked at the foot on the ground for awhile, it became easy to perceive NO rotations, but rather a back and forth swaying. From that point it was easy to make her spin either direction at will.
I can only switch it if i look at something that isnt the girl…i saw it clockwise
then without me thinking about it it switched and i couldnt switch back
then it did the same thing
This bothers me… I can’t reverse the directions by choice. I see the clockwise naturally. I can see the counter-clockwise by looking at the image with the white lines defining, and then look back at original. But then I can’t make it go back to clockwise without looking at the clockwise or looking away for awhile…
I can make her turn either way for a while and then she’ll stick going one way.
Actually if you keep watching it changes direction from one way to the other…you have to keep your eyes wide open and don’t blink…you’ll see it change directions. No left side right side brain stuff here…just a trick in the picture changing directions.
lol Dan. I thought that the image changed directions, too, so I opened it cell by cell in an animation program and it doesn’t change directions.
If you move your eyes to different places - like reading the text beside it or glancing up down or just off to a side - you’ll discover that you can make it change directions by changing where you’re looking. The direction you see is created by an optical illusion.
