Teens beat 16 year old girl so they could post the video on YouTube.

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Video was released late Monday afternoon showing a brutal beating at the hands of a gang of teenage girls. Their motivation for the attack was apparently so they could post the video on YouTube.

The 16 year old girl suffered a concussion and eye injuries in addition to bruises.
The assault was at the hands of 6 teenage girls (14-17) as well as 2 teenage boys that were “lookouts” outside the home where the beating took place. The suspects face charges for false imprisonment and battery and 3 were also charged with kidnapping.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. When teenagers hang out on the Internet (MySpace, Facebook, etc) with no adult supervision, we are increasingly seeing them create a sick and twisted Internet version of Lord of the Flies. Children governing themselves with disastrous results.
A 14-17 year old is not a grown up. Parents need to parent.

Well said Linda, and right on the money. I agree totally. Just had a conversation with #2, about how it’s such a negative thing for her right now and she’d get well faster if she stayed off of it. How fitting to come here and find you’ve just said the same thing I just said an hour and a half ago.
Hey sis. Yup… some places just have bad mojo and are best avoided. Used to be public forums were bad. Social networks and YouTube have gone way beyond the crap I used to “parent” at forums 10 years ago.
I’ve been so disturbed by this I haven’t even known what to say. I’m just so astounded that our young women are becoming as violent as boys always have been.
I can’t help but look at feminism and the abortion industry that devalues life and instead of pushing for equal, but different, the feminists have turned into that and then some of what they set out to fix once upon a time.
As to the social networking like Facebook and MySpace… I can’t help but see that in many ways the internet makes things so impersonal that most people act in ways they never would in person. Most adults can contain this behavior, although I’ve noticed most all sites have their ‘trolls’… but young people with very little emotional development and raging hormones and all simply can’t deal with it.
Anyway, those are my random thoughts on this very disturbing trend.
Hey Jayleen - your random thoughts are good ones. People do act in ways that they probably wouldn’t in person.
Once upon a time, girls were much less likely to resort to physical fighting. Boys have always been the gender more likely to settle things with their fists. It makes me wonder how much of this girls do to impress boys, especially when they have facebook, myspace and youtube as their showcase.
In most cases, teens can *show off* without their parents knowing what they’re doing. They can abuse people, harass people, ridicule people… and if mommy and daddy don’t have the username and password (and nickname) they’ll never know.
Mix in mob mentality and the underdeveloped mind of a teen and it gets worse. All it takes is one person to have a stupid or violent idea…. and mob mentality and peer pressure takes care of the rest.
Last year, a group of boys in Australia planned a rape to put the video on YouTube. They were charged, and one of the boys copped a plea bargain by saying he never really wanted to go along with it, but was afraid to say so. He’s giving testimony and releasing evidence in return for a lighter sentence.
Makes me wonder how many teens participate in “online plans” that really don’t want to because they’re afraid to be the one to say no. That doesn’t make what they’re doing right, of course… as they inevitably find out when it escalates to criminal action.
Kids these days…
OMG Linda I just couldn’t bear to watch it being a parent of a an almost 15 year old.
My teen spends a lot of time on the ‘net (too much but i am working on it) … thankfully she is sensible becasue it has been drummed into her.
She was out with 2 of her mates tonight and I said ‘9 o’clock home’ she was back at 8.30 as she was bored and there were a lot of ‘idiots out’ (her words)
I just thank whoever is out there for giving my teen that common sense and I so feel for those who have not got and resort to this.
I must say in the job I have just come from, that I would rather face a hairy arsed bloke in confrontation than a woman. Woman or gals when fired up don’t tend to back off when faced with the same sex (a bit like man on man) and are very vicious when off on one.
Most hard knock men I have had to deal with (not teenagers I hasten to say) have backed off (thank goodness!)
Kimchi…. lol. Those three words about say it.
70s…. I’m laughing. Most “hairy arsed blokes” have the common sense to back off when faced with a pissed off female. Teenagers? Not so much. lol
Glad you’re lucky with your teen. I was too and I’m forever grateful.
I remember a day when she was lecturing a friend about her ‘choices’ and it dawned on her that she sounded like me. She wasn’t sure if she should laugh or be horrified. She decided it was pretty funny and laughed. lol
I saw this today during my lunch break. How sad.
Wandered over via Dorky Dad. I heard about this story. Very sick. The parents and kids should be locked up IMO. Yuck. Makes me ill to think about it. Nice to meet you!
Nice to meet you too, Joeprah…. heading over to your blog to say hi!
And I agree. It’s very sick and hope the sentences they get serve as a message to other kids. IMHO, YouTube should post the sentences on their main page as a message.
Course, that would probably only incite some of them. *sigh*
: )
TO BE HONEST I THINK ITS BULLSHIT THAT SOME KIDS WOULD DO THAT AND MY OPINION ABOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION IS THAT I THINK EACH KID SHOULD BE PUT IN A CAGE AND HAVE 6 PPL JUMP ON THEM AND KICK THEIR ASS TO THE POINT WHERE THEY CANT HEAR AND SEE….ALSO THIS JUST TELLS U HOW FREAKIN IMMATURE KIDS ARE….
I MEAN SERIOUSLY THEY DONE THIS OVER SUPPOSABLY SOMETHING THAT WAS SAID ON MYSPACE…HOW LOW CAN U GO TO ACTUALLY SET SOMEONE UP AND AMBUSH THEM IN A HOUSE THEN NOT ALLOW HER TO RUN OR ANYTHING…IF U SEEN THAT GIRL WAS SCARED TO DEATH TO THE POINT SHE DIDNT WANT TO HIT THE GIRLS BACK FOR THE FACT OF THINKING MAYBE ALL OF THEM WOULD JUMP ON HER…
I agree Mitch. It’s hard to find the words and I hope these girls see some very, very serious repercussions.
I also hope it wakes a lot of parents up to what’s happening at sites like MySpace.
This is an outrage. That sad part about it is that Black teens are faced with this prospect everyday in Chicago High School’s a girl that I mentor has been jumped more than once and I even know girl’s who have “jumped” other girls. What we must do know that we know this kind of violence is real and exist is to join together and make this case an example. To every reader I encourage you to write the school these girl’s attend ask that they be barred from Cheerleading, demand that they have to go to mandatory anger management and counseling. Community service in a local juvenile prison would serve them right. They don’t need to walk away from this “unfazed”. They need a reality check “cheerleading practice”? That is ridiculous!
One more thing Boycott MySpace!!!!!
Good points, Lena. I agree.
I’m going to do a follow up page on YouTube violence, and I’ll include the school address for people that want to send letters to.
I’m so sorry to hear that this is happening to black teens in Chicago regularly. It’s horrible and they should NOT have to live with that. Give the girl you mentor a big hug and tell her there’s people out there that really do care!
Watch for more, because this isn’t done. Not by a long shot. I think you’re spot on about making this an example to show parents and schools how bad it is and that something needs to be done about it.
These girls that was involved in this beating should be banned from cheerleading first and expelled from school and should be helded accountable as adults. Put them in prison for at least 10 years are more. The guys should go down to for their involvement.
I don’t believe these kinds of acts are any more common, just more widely televised.
Myspace and Youtube shouldn’t change, the internet is a great place because of sites like that. It is the american public school system that should change, seeing as a country with so much money gets such poor results compared to many other developed nations. I’m Canadian, however, and don’t have any first-hand experience/

I have been searching the web trying to find out what rights my 15 year old daughter has,and I came across this video. My daughter was jumped lastnight by 3 girls all older then her and a boy who was there look out.She has injuries but not serious enough to put her into the hospital.Because of our young offenders act we can do nothing to protect our daughter. This is the second attack on my child and the ring leader has been intimidating and harassing my daughter for a little more then a year. The police talked to all 4 kids involved lastnight but thats all.The officer we spoke with told us they have teens murdering other children and they only spend 2 years in jail for it so what do we expect him to do about this.He is not taking any of this seriously….He was more interested in the wood floor then looking at my child bruised and battered face. The first attack was on video and infact is still on this other girls face book.I have emails phone calls all hours of the night. They don’t care.Tomorrow we go to the court to ask for a restraining order that is going to cost me 35$,I just paid the dr office 60$ to give me a report on my childs injeries. Is this fair?Im at a loss on what to do here.My instinct is to protect my child at all costs. If anyone has any good advice or can tell me what rights my child has I really would like to know.We are Canadian so our laws are abit different.
